Cold Mountain
Yesterday, we all hiked up to Cold Mountain for a family session. We had seen photos online of this place and agreed we should visit and take in some of God’s glory by enjoying his creation. This hike was nothing short of amazing. The way up is steep, although only 1 mile up to the top, was made more difficult while carrying small children and heavy camera equipment. When we reached our destination we were rewarded with breathtaking beauty. Golden brown grassy meadows surrounded by views of the blue ridge mountains on all sides. We determined we had not labored in vain. These words of Bunyan’s beautiful allegory quickly came to mind:
“This hill though high I covent ascend;
The difficulty will not me offend;
For I perceive the way of life lies here.
Come, pluck up, heart; let’s neither faint nor fear.”
-John Bunyan, ‘The Pligrim’s Progress’
