Why Invest in a Tangible Experience | Prints Matter
If you have invested in a session with me you have probably heard my soap box of the importance to print your photos. Prints matter, and I’m here to explain that in a little more detail here and why you should invest in more than just digital files. This generation’s memories may possibly never be never known to the next. Why would I say that? Here is the harsh reality, we live in the digital age where everything is stored digitally; your hard drive, cloud service, or cell phone does not live forever! In my past life I worked for Verizon Wireless. I sold cellphones and helped many people get mobile, but mostly my time was spent dealing with technical issues i.e. “I dropped my phone in the toilet”, then only to watch grown ups cry like babies because their photos of their precious child’s birth had been destroyed FOREVER! Hard drives are physical devices, things like lubricant and bearings will degrade over time. At most hard drives are made to last 5-7 years. And the cloud service is just a large hard drive with a few more back ups and fancy cooling systems. Right now, technology doesn’t have an easy solution for long-term storage. Digitally storing photos is no guarantee that your grandcildren or even your children will be able to look at them. As a child I loved going into my grandmother’s closet and bringing down an old shoebox of photos full of my family’s history and memories. I got to see pictures of my great grandparents, whom i never got to meet, my grand parents on their first date, pictures of my mom as child in her Easter dress, Thanksgiving dinners, my grandfather plowing his Tobacco field, and my mother as homecoming queen. These are all things that are part of my family and intimately woven into who I am. I am appreciative of whomever took those pictures for my childhood enjoyment. Even though I am not even in those precious moments, I am thankful to understand who my family was and what made me who I am today.
